Where is Xcalak

Xcalak pronounced "ish-kalak"...

Is a remote Fishing Village located on the Caribbean at the Southern most tip of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo. The coastal area now called Costa Maya. Where the second largest barrier reef in the world follows the coastline from above Cozumel to past Belize. Our remote area is how Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and other Small Fishing Villages in Mexico were 20 years ago. The place to Vacation with no crowds.

Visiting Xcalak by Car

Most guests arrive at the Cancun Airport...

And and get a Rental Car. Cancun Airport is very small compared to USA Airports. But many Rental Car Companies are available. The drive to Xcalak takes over 5+ hours. If you have arrived in the afternoon, you should consider staying overnight in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum. It is not recommended to Drive at night for many reasons, wildlife on the road, no lighting, narrow roads with no shoulders, and many miles of only Jungle.  » Click for FAQ

Coming to Xcalak by Bus

Due to our Remote Location coming by Bus is not easy...

Xcalak being remote has limited scheduled Bus Service. We only have 2 Arrivals (11 AM and 8 PM) and 2 Departures (5 AM and 2 PM) of the Caribe Bus Line a day. Coming by Bus is very time consuming, and the only direct Bus to Xcalak is from Chetumal, not from Cancun.

If you are Arriving at the Cancun Airport (and do not plan on staying the night in Cancun) take the RIVIERA Airport Shuttle Bus to the Playa del Carmen Bus Station. At the Playa del Carmen Bus Station purchase a Ticket to Limones (ADO Bus Line is Preferred). At Limones you have options, ask for the Bus to Xcalak (5:30 PM), or the next bus to Mahahual. There is usually a Taxi at the Bus Station in Limones that you can Hire to take you to the Hotel $60 US, or if you can arrive in Mahahual get a Taxi to the Hotel for $40 US.  » Click for FAQ

Driving Directions from Cancun

Leaving the Cancun Airport you will be heading East and come to Highway 307, take the turn
Right/South towards Playa del Carmen / Tulum. Highway 307 from Playa del Carmen to Tulum is a busy tourist area with a lot of traffic, traffic will greatly decrease after Tulum.

Continue South on Highway 307. 100 km/62 miles south of Tulum is Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The Gas Station in the center of town, (Not the first gas station you see, the 2nd one in the center of town), has the last ATM you will pass, 3,000 peso maximum withdrawal (can sometimes be out of cash, do not rely on getting cash there), and get gasoline.

Continue South on 307 about another hour, then 3 km past the small town of Limones you will approach a large T intersection with a small store on the Northeast corner. Turn Left/East to Mahahual & Xcalak. This road is fairly straight, but at 18 km there is a severe curve, then at 51 km there is a large tope/speed bump in the road.

A little after the large speed bump is the turn off for Xcalak. Turn Right/South...(But if
you need gas, the Gas Station in Mahahual is straight ahead 1/2 mile. You drive past
the Xcalak turn-off and go straight ahead to buy gas, and then reverse back to the
turn-off, and Turn Left/South to Xcalak). Follow the paved 'Jungle Road' south 60 km/38
miles. At the end of the road, you are at a T and a Stop Sign, go Left/East about 2
kilometers into the town of Xcalak.

As you enter the village drive straight through to the ocean. Turn Left/North along
the Beach Road, the ocean is on your right, continue north thru town past the lighthouse
and town pier. Turn Left at the 2 story white building that is the Port Captain's Office,
painted in large letters on the building, (if you miss that turn you'll come to a dead end
in about 2 blocks, and have to go back), then turn at the next street Right, you will then
go over the small town bridge. Flying Cloud is less than 1/4 mile North of the bridge. You
will see our sign, turn right into the driveway and park. The drive trip will take 5+ hours.
